Executive Dinner for Nigeria’s Delegation to the 148th IPU in Geneva

NIGERIA’s Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, was among distinguished guests at the Executive Committee Dinner hosted by International Parliamentary Union (IPU) President, Hon. Dr. Tulia Ackson, during the 148th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in Geneva, Switzerland.


The evening brought together prominent figures including the IPU Secretary General, Martin Chungong, and his vice, Cecilia Widegren, showcasing Nigeria’s active engagement in global parliamentary affairs.

The Senate President’s presence at the dinner pinpoints Nigeria’s commitment to fostering dialogue and cooperation on the international stage.

Accompanied by the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Benjamin Kalu, and Senator Asuquo Ekpeyong, Akpabio’s participation highlights Nigeria’s dedication to leveraging platforms like the IPU to promote peace, dialogue, democracy and sustainable development worldwide.

Founded in 1889, the IPU serves as a crucial forum for cooperation among 179 member countries, with Akpabio’s nomination to the Preparatory Committee. Nigeria’s historic achievement breaks a 59-year-old jinx since her last participation in 1964.
