Cooking Gas Prices Surge by 19.75% in February 2024, NBA Data Shows

THE NATIONAL Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has released data indicating a significant increase in the cost of refilling a 5kg cylinder of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (Cooking Gas) in February 2024.

According to the report, the average price surged to N6, 154,50, marking a 19.75% rise from January 2023’s price of N5,139.25.

Year-on-year, the increase amounted to N1,553.93, representing a N33.78% surge from February 2023.

State-by-state analysis also revealed that Lagos topped the list with the highest average cost for a refilling a 5kg cylinder at N6, 820,00, followed closely by Anambra.

Conversely, Yobe recorded the lowest price at N4,912.50. Regionally, the South-East had the highest average retail price, while the North-Central region had the lowest.

Meanwhile, the price for the refilling a 12.5kg cylinder of Cooking Gas also experienced a significant increase, jumping by 28.33% month-on-month and 46.88% year-on-year.

Ogun emerged with the highest average cost for refilling a 12.5kg cylinder, while Bauchi recorded the lowest.

Also, regionally, the South-East led in average price, closely followed by the South-South, while the North-East had the lowest regional price.
