IN A solemn announcement made on Tuesday, the Nigerian Army has disclosed the funeral arrangements for the 17 soldiers tragically killed in an ambush during a peacekeeping mission in Delta State.

The burial ceremony is slated for Wednesday, March 27, 2024, at the National Cemetery in Abuja, with proceedings commencing at 3.00pm.

The soldiers, who lost their lives in the line of duty in the Okuama community, Delta State, will be laid to rest with full military honours. Notably, President Bola Tinubu is expected to attend as the Special Guest of Honour, paying tribute to the fallen heroes.

This somber even follows the harrowing incident on March 14, 2024, when gunmen attacked army personnel in Okuama Community.

Major-General Onyema Nwachukwu, the Army Spokesperson conveyed the details of the burial plans, underscoring the nation’s collective mouring for the brave servicemen.

Amid ongoing operations in Okuoma, Ugheli local government area, further distress unfolded as Nigerian Military search and rescue teams discovered decomposing hearts believed to belong to some of the fallen soldiers.

Major Edward Buba, Director of Defense Media Operations, disclosed this grim development of Friday, highlighting the severity of the conflict and the sacrifices endured by the Nigerian Army in their pursuit of peace.

In response to the escalating tensions, military efforts in the Okuoma community have intensified, with troops conducting thorough clearance operations to bring the perpetrators of these heinous acts to justice.
