AMIDST a storm of political turmoil, the National Working Committee (NWC), of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has dismissed a purported list of Caretaker Committee members circulating on social media and certain national dailies.
The Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, spearheaded this declaration after a crucial meeting at the National Secretariat, Wadata Plaza in Abuja, on Thursday evening.
Governor Fubara reiterated the party’s stance, emphasizing the validity of resolutions made during a prior meeting between the NWC, members of the Board of Trustee (BoTs), and the PDP Governor’s Forum in Abuja in March.
The Governor underscored that executive officers, whose tenures ended in March, would remain in office until the conclusion of a three-month extension period approved by the NWC, followed by the conduct of new congress to replace them.
Citing a letter from the National Organizing Secretary, Governor Fubara highlighted the clarity regarding the appointment of Caretaker Committee Members for Rivers State, as approved by the NWC.
He condemned the circulated list as fabricated and urged affected party officials to disregard it.
In an official statement released by Nelson Chukwudi, Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Fubara emphasized that no alterations had been made to the tenure of officers officially extended for three months, pending possible ratification by the National Executive Council.
Governor Fubara also condemned the dissemination of the fake list, attributing it to the machinations of political adversaries seeking to sow discord within the party and the state. He urged affected party officials to remain composed and warned against impersonation or any attempts to disrupt party operations.
Furthermore, Governor Fubara issued a stern warning to individuals falsely listed as Caretaker Committee members, cautioning them against unauthorized activities that could result in legal repercussions for forgery and impersonation.
He noted that as tensions escalate within the party, the PDP remains resolute in its commitment to uphold internal agreements and maintain stability amidst Nigeria’s tumultuous political scenery.
