FOLLOWING the recent accident on Wednesday, which took place on the Third Mainland Bridge, Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, has issued directives urging commuters to report any instances of overspeeding by drivers.
These directives were conveyed in a statement signed by Oluwaseun Osiyemi on Thursday.
In the statement, Osiyemi emphasized that these instructions apply to all drivers within Lagos State, particularly those traversing the just renovated Third Mainland Bridge, with a strict reminder that the speed limit should not exceed 80km per hour.
He said it has become pertinent for the state government to underscore the critical importance of adhering to safety measures and urged the adoption of precautionary steps to safeguard the lives of all road users.
Osiyemi also reiterated the state government’s uncompromising commitment to enforcing traffic regulations and urged travelers to fulfill their responsibility by ensuring that drivers adhere to speed limits.
Furthermore, he encouraged individuals to promptly report any violations to the nearest Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) outpost or utilize the provided hotline numbers: 09020009000 and 09020004000.
He said the notice serves as a timely reminder to the public following the recent accident in which the hope of recovering the bodies of the two passengers tragically thrown into the lagoon has gone sadly dim.
