REAFFIRMING commitment to transparent governance, Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State reiterated his administration’s dedication to prudent financial management during a meeting with the House of Representatives Committee on Public Accounts.
This declaration came during a courtesy visit by the committee to the Government House in Port Harcourt.
Governor Fubara, who previously served as the State’s Accountant-General, highlighted the significant strides made in enhancing financial transparency since assuming office.
He emphasized the importance of efficient resource allocation, especially in the face of inherited challenges such as stagnant civil service promotion system.
Under his leadership, he notes that the state has witnessed a remarkable increase in Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), which is being judiciously utilized to address crucial sectors such as education, healthcare, and agriculture.
Despite financial constraints, the governor emphasized the avoidance of borrowing, showcasing a commitment to fiscal responsibility.
“Our government will be for the people,” Fubara declared, underlining the paramount importance of meeting the needs of the populace, emphasizing that investments in education, healthcare, and agriculture are vital for combating societal issues and ensuring sustainable development.
Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Public Accounts, Hon Bamidele Salam, commended the governor’s achievements and encouraged continued efforts to deliver dividends of democracy to the people of the state.
Stressing the importance of peace for development, Salam acknowledged the state’s conducive environment and the governor’s unwavering focus on governance amid political challenges.
In a similar development, Governor Fubara affirmed his administration’s alignment with federal government initiatives aimed at improving citizens’ welfare.
He highlighted the ongoing infrastructure projects such as the Woji-Aleto-Alesa-Refinery Road, which seeks to enhance access to the Port Harcourt Refinery and alleviate traffic congestion on the East-West Road.
The visit of the Senate Ad-Hoc Committee to investigate the Turnaround Maintenance of Nigeria’s Refineries further underscored the collaborative efforts towards national development.
Senator Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah, chairman of the committee, praised the progress of refinery rehabilitation efforts in Rivers State, expressing optimism about its operationalization in the near future.
Gov Fubara further reiterated his administration’s unwavering commitment to serving the people of his state and fostering meaningful progress, despite prevailing challenges.
He also emphasized the importance of prioritizing the welfare of citizens above political interests, affirming the state’s dedication to peaceful coexistence and hospitality.
Fubara also notes that as Rivers State continues its journey towards prosperity, his pledge of transparency and progress serves to boost hope for the people, signaling a steadfast resolve to navigate challenges and deliver tangible benefits to all stakeholders.
