ECONOMIC policies instituted by President Bola Tinubu-led administration are beginning to yield favourable outcomes, Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, has noted.
He asserts that the policies are positioning Nigeria as an attractive global brand.
Speaking at the inaugural Nigeria Public Relations week, held at the June 12 Cultural Centre in Abeokuta, Governor Abiodun stressed the importance of leveraging public relations to bolster Nigeria’s economic and reputational revival.
Acknowledging President Tinubu’s transformative leadership, Abiodun emphasized the role of PR specialists in disseminating Nigeria’s renewed agenda for global investment, urging them to showcase the potential of his state through their professional expertise.
Highlighting the significance of PR in fostering economic development and sustainable growth, Abiodun emphasized the need for a positive national image while praising the efforts by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), under Mr. Yemi Cardoso, particularly in managing foreign exchange, as indicative of the administration’s commitment to change and progress.
He cited the removal of subsidies and the floating of the naira as key measures contributing to the nation’s economic resurgence, with the local currency gaining strength, Abiodun described PR as a vital tool for effective communication, shaping perceptions, and guiding policy during economic challenges.
Ogun governor also outlined the state government’s infrastructure initiatives aimed at improving the business environment and promoting investment.
These include the construction of over 500 kilometers of roads, rehabilitation of primary health centers, provision of affordable housing and efforts to enhance security.
The Minister of Information and National Orientation, represented by the Director of the National Orientation Agency, hinged on the importance of celebrating Nigeria’s achievements while charting a path forward, emphasizing the power of communication in restoring public trust and promoting government initiatives. 4
President of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Dr. Ike Neliaku, stressed the critical role of reputation management in national development, while commending Ogun governor’s contributions to his state’s progress and highlighted the state’s hosting of the event as a proof to its leadership in innovation.
In response to the recent infrastructure challenges in Sango Ota, Governor Abiodun assured residents of swift action to restore power following a rainstorm.
He noted that the government has engaged with the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company to address the damage caused by fallen poles, prioritizing the well-being of affected communities.
He also said that his government’s commitment to the infrastructure restoration is for them to show that they are there to serve the people in the drive to continue to revitalize the economy and promote positive change in the state as part of their focus on sustainable development and inclusive growth.
