THE Ogun State government has taken a decisive action by sealing off Gasco Marine Lid, the company linked to the truck involved in the recent explosion tragedy in the Ita-Oshin area of Abeokuta North local government area.
Addressing reporters after the closure of the company’s premises situated at Onijoganjogan, Abeokuta, Hon Farouq Akintunde, the Senior Special Assistant to Gov Dapo Abiodun on Environment cum Chairman of the Task Force on Environmental Matters, he attributed the accident to the company’s negligence.
Akintunde expressed sorrow over the incident, emphasizing its tragic toll in terms of loss of life and property destruction. He stressed that preliminary investigations indicated negligence on the part of the company in ensuring proper safety measures of its trucks.
“As a regulatory body overseeing these matters, it’s imperative for us to conduct comprehensive safety and audit tests on all their trucks to prevent further tragedies. TO facilitate this, we have temporarily shut down the premises. Subsequent procedures will follow accordingly,” Akintunde stated firmly.
He reassured that the company would be allowed to resume operations once all necessary safety measures are implemented and emphasized the government’s commitment to fostering a business-friendly environment while prioritizing public safety and regulatory compliance, Akintunde noted.
