THE Federal Government of Nigeria has officially declared Wednesday, May 1, as a public holiday in commemoration of this year’s Workers’ Day celebration.

This announcement came through the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tuni0Ojo, representing the FG on Tuesday, April 30.

In his declaration, Tunji-Ojo emphasized the crucial values of excellence, efficiency and equity across all sectors of labour, reiterating the administration’s commitment, under President Bola Tinubu, to nurture a culture of innovation, productivity, and inclusivity within workplace.

The theme for this year, focusing on ensuring safety and health at work amidst a changing climate, was underscored by Tunji-Ojo, as he affirmed the government’s unwavering dedication to prioritizing the safety and well-being of all citizens.

“In alignment with this year’s theme, the FG remains steadfast in its resolve to prioritize the safety and well-being of all citizens,” he stated.

He further reiterated President Tinubu’s commitment to fostering a conducive work environment where every worker can flourish and contribute meaningfully to national development.

This was also echoed by the Permanent Secretary of his Ministry, Dr. Aishetu Ndayako.

Recognizing the invaluable contribution of workers, the Minister called for proactice measures to mitigate the adverse effects of climate change, stressing the importance of synergy in implementing sustainable practices and policies to promote well-being in the workplace, emphasizing the nation’s guiding principles of integrity, diligence and compassion.

Additionally, the minister urged all Nigerians to remain dedicated to the present administration as he extended warm wishes to workers for a joyous celebration, noting that as the nation prepares to observe Workers’ Day, it is not only about celebration, but reflection on the values and challenges facing the Nigerian workforce in an evolving global landscape.
