THE Social-Economic Rights & Accountability Project (SERAP) has called on the Federal Government of Nigeria to stop harassment and intimidation of an ace investigative journalist, Fisayo Soyombo, founder, Foundation for Investigative Journalism (FIJ), over his report on the illicit activities of Nigeria Customs Service.

This was disclosed via a social media post on Friday by SERAP which states, “We urge President Tinubu to immediately direct the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to stop harassing and intimidating journalist Fisayo Soyombo simply for doing his job.”

The Police have reportedly declared him apparently wanted to silence him.

SERAP cautions that authorities must immediately stop harassing Soyombo and members of his FIJ and allow him and his group to carry out their legitimate work.

The police must also stop harassing Bukky Shonibare of FIJ’s Board of Trustees, SERAP notes, saying that freedom of expression is a fundamental right and journalism is NOT a crime.

The SERAP social media also notes, “we’ll take appropriate legal action if the threat, harassment and intimidation of ‘Fisayo Soyombo and Bukky Shonibare are not immediately stopped.”
