PROCLAIMING his administration’s success in transforming the state into a vast construction site, Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, has attributed his rise to the governorship to divine intervention.
He made the comments at the first anniversary thanksgiving service held at Living Faith Church, Ibusa Road, Asaba where he recounted the journey of his administration and highlighted the extensive infrastructure projects undertaken in the past year.
Oborevwori noted the significant challenges he faced during his campaign, including 38 legal challenges, but emphasized that his administration had initiated 317 projects across Delta State.
Among these, 76 road projects covering 171.49 kilometers and 85.30 kilometers of drainage systems were specifically launched by his government.
“We will soon begin the inauguration of some of these roads and other sector projects for the world to see what we have accomplished in the last year, by the grace of God,” Governor Oborevwori announced. He described the past year as one of trials and triumphs, attributing his successes to divine faithfulness and protection, particularly recalling a recent car accident from which his family was delivered unharmed.
Acknowledging the support of his wife, Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori, deputy governor, former governors Ifeanyi Okowa and Emmanuel Uduaghan, the National and State House of Assembly, judiciary, civil service, security agencies, and various leaders, Oborevwori expressed gratitude for their unwavering loyalty.
He stressed the collective effort required to build the Delta State of their dreams.
Reflecting on the intense competition of the 2022 PDP governorship primary, Oborevwori remarked, “The PDP gubernatorial primaries of 2022 were the most keenly contested in Delta State’s history.
My emergence as the PDP governorship candidate for the 2023 general election was a product of divine choice.” He referenced scripture to underscore his belief that his victory was not by his own strength but by divine will.
Despite the numerous lawsuits aimed at derailing his campaign, Oborevwori credited his ultimate victory to God’s intervention. “I faced 38 different lawsuits from individuals determined to stop me, but God saw me through,” he stated, citing Psalm 34:19 to illustrate his journey through adversity.
The governor celebrated his administration’s achievements over the past year, asserting that they had surpassed expectations and silenced critics. He reiterated his commitment to advancing Delta State’s social and economic development.
During the service, Pastor Adekunle Shiyanbade, State Mission Overseer of Living Faith Church, emphasized the importance of giving regular thanks to God.
Drawing biblical parallels, he commended Oborevwori for dedicating the anniversary to thanksgiving and encouraged him to maintain a close relationship with God.
The pastor highlighted seven benefits of thanksgiving, including divine intervention and favor.
The thanksgiving service was attended by many dignitaries, including the Governor’s wife, Tobore, Deputy Governor Sir Monday Onyeme and his wife Ezinne Catherine, former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa and his wife Dame Edith, former Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan, former Deputy Governors Chief Benjamin Elue and Deacon Kingsley Otuaro, Senator Joel-Onowakpo Thomas, Deputy Speaker of the State House of Assembly Rt. Hon. Arthur Akpowowo, and several members of the National Assembly.
Together, they joined in giving special thanks to God for the achievements of the past year.
