THIS WEEK, the Glo-sponsored African Voices Changemakers on CNN will showcase two remarkable Nigerian designers, highlighting their contributions to the fashion industry.

The 30-minute programme will feature Dumebi Andrea Iyamah, the creative force behind the Andrea Iyamah label, and Ruth Erikan James, the visionary behind Veekee James.

Dumebi Andrea Iyamah, Founder and CEO of her namesake fashion label, was born on March 18, 1993, and raised in Lagos, Nigeria.

At the age of 17, she launched Andrea Iyamah, a brand now headquartered in Toronto. Known for its bridal, swimwear, and ready-to-wear collections, Andrea Iyamah boasts a flagship store in Lagos.

The brand’s clientele includes high-profile personalities such as Michelle Obama, Kate Hudson, Gabrielle Union, Ciara, Issa Rae, and Nollywood star Genevieve Nnaji.

Andrea Iyamah’s bold swimwear designs, which blend African heritage with contemporary aesthetics, are celebrated for their vibrant colors and intricate patterns.

Ruth Erikan James, hailing from Akwa Ibom state in Nigeria, learned the art of sewing from her mother, a fashion designer.

In 2019, Ruth established her fashion brand, Veekee James, and later expanded with Veekee James Man, catering to men’s wear, and Shoprikan, dedicated exclusively to women’s fashion.

Her labels have gained widespread recognition for their exceptional designs, attracting a diverse clientele of local and international personalities.

African Voices Changemakers will air on Saturday at 8:30 a.m., with a repeat showing at noon.

On Sunday, viewers can catch additional repeats at 4:30 a.m. and 7:00 p.m.

This episode promises to offer an inspiring look at the journeys of these two fashion icons and their impact on the global fashion scene.
