CELEBRATING the 57th anniversary of Rivers State’s creation, Governor Siminalayi Fubara noted that despite facing significant political upheaval, his administration remains steadfast, delivering crucial democratic dividends and addressing governance challenges.

He made the remarks at a public banquet which held at the Government House in Port Harcourt on Monday night, as part of activities to mark his first year in office.

During his speech, Fubara attributed the administration’s successes to divine guidance and strength.

“Our achievements so far have been possible because God has graciously upheld our government, offering direction and fortitude,” he said.

Reflecting on his tenure, Fubara noted that, despite a tumultuous start, the last four months have been characterized by effective governance focused on prudence, purposefulness, and the state’s best interests.

He highlighted the administration’s commitment to the people of Rivers State, noting, “We are providing governance that has the interest of our people at heart. Governance that is prudent and respectful of you all.” Expressing gratitude for the support received, he added, “We decided to have this banquet to say thank you to everyone who has supported us.”

He also stressed the importance of divine intervention in his administration’s journey, stating, “We are succeeding because we are on the side of God. It’s not just about professing to stand with God, but ensuring that God is actively involved in our affairs.”

A key focus of Fubara’s speech was the ongoing infrastructure projects, particularly the Trans-Kalabari Road, which aims to enhance connectivity and security in the region. “This project alone will cost over N225 billion, and its completion will significantly reduce security issues, bring development to remote areas, and eliminate water piracy and boat mishaps,” he explained.

Fubara urged the community to view this project as a step towards statewide development beyond Port Harcourt. He also highlighted other major initiatives, such as the Port Harcourt Ring Road and the Elele-Egbeda-Omoku Road, which are aimed at expanding infrastructure and fostering growth throughout Rivers State.

Addressing healthcare, the governor also acknowledged the challenges within the state’s medical facilities and pledged improvements. “In the next six months, all our zonal hospitals, including general hospitals in strategic LGAs, must be operational,” he vowed, emphasizing the administration’s goal to provide accessible and affordable healthcare.

Fubara also emphasized the importance of education, aiming to ensure that every child in Rivers State has access to quality schooling. “We want to provide the basics necessary for reducing crime and promoting safe, productive communities,” he stated.

In his appeal for continued support, Fubara called on the state’s leaders, legislature, and judiciary to collaborate for the betterment of Rivers State. He also thanked the security agencies for their role in maintaining peace and urged traditional leaders to assist in ensuring community safety.

The banquet also featured remarks from the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Tammy Danagogo, who highlighted the administration’s accomplishments and ongoing projects. He announced the unveiling of a new book, “Rivers Golden Expedition, Trials And Triumphs,” documenting the history and achievements of Rivers and Bayelsa states.

Dr. Danagogo praised Governor Fubara for his bold initiatives, including the continuation and commencement of significant infrastructure projects such as the Unity Road and the Trans-Kalabari Road. He commended the governor’s determination and leadership in tackling these ambitious endeavors.

The evening concluded with the cutting of the anniversary cake, the official launch of the new book, and toasts to the continued peace, progress, and prosperity of Nigeria and Rivers State. The event was attended by former governors, deputy governors, senators, traditional rulers, and other dignitaries, and featured music, comedy, dance, and festivities.
