ON A condolence visit, following the passing of the Speaker’s father, Alhaji Suleimon Atanda Obasa, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, accompanied by his cabinet, was at the Agege residence of the Lagos State House of Assembly Speaker, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa, on Friday.

Pa Suleimon Obasa, who died on Tuesday at the age of 83, was remembered by Governor Sanwo-Olu as a vibrant individual who was in good health just days before his unexpected demise.

The governor expressed his heartfelt sympathy to the Speaker and his family on behalf of the Lagos State government and its citizens.

“Extending our deepest condolences to you and the Obasa family, we acknowledge the profound shock of losing a parent, irrespective of their age. It is a reminder of life’s inevitabilities, and we trust that this was his appointed time,” Sanwo-Olu stated.

He emphasized the importance of living a life that leaves a lasting legacy, noting, “Your father’s legacy is evident in the leadership and unity you exhibit as a community leader. His contributions will be remembered, and it is now your duty to continue his good works.”

Sanwo-Olu praised Speaker Obasa for his exemplary leadership in the Assembly and his dedication to the state, expressing hope that he would continue to lead effectively.

In his response, Speaker Obasa acknowledged the House of Assembly as a key support structure for the governor’s administration, committed to ensuring its success. He expressed gratitude for the governor’s visit, which he saw as a testament to the unity and cooperative spirit within the government.

“I hold you in the highest regard, Governor. Our shared commitment to the legacy of our mentor, Asiwaju Tinubu, drives our service to the people of Lagos. The development Agege has seen is a result of your support and intervention,” Obasa said.

He stressed the importance of community service over personal gain, noting that true legacy is built through contributions to one’s community.

“Governor, you are my brother, and our successes in the Assembly are largely due to your unwavering support. We are dedicated to your administration’s success, and we continually pray for your guidance and that of the deputy governor. This mutual support is essential for our collective growth,” Obasa concluded.
