OGUN State Governor Dapo Abiodun, has urged for a partnership between the Royal Institute of British Architects and tertiary institutions in Ogun State, proposing architecture as a significant course of study.

During a meeting with the President of the Royal Institute of British Architects, Mr. Muyiwa Oki, Governor Abiodun challenged the Nigerians Institute of Architecture (NIA) to organize a competition to inspire architecture students to hone their skills and contribute to national development.

Abiodun praised Mr. Oki, a Nigerian-born British architect, for his historic appointment as the 80th President of the Royal Institute of British Architects, emphasizing the importance of collaboration in areas such as research and development.

The governor highlighted his administration’s efforts in constructing approximately 3,500 affordable houses in Kobape and other areas, emphasizing the need for sustainable and affordable housing solutions.

He also mentioned ongoing urban renewal projects across the state, including the redevelopment of the old Abeokuta housing scheme, in partnership with the United Kingdom Development Office.

Mr. Muyiwa Oki, in response, expressed gratitude to Governor Abiodun for the audience and outlined his priorities as president of the institute, including promoting the significance of architecture, addressing climate change challenges, and fostering unity in diversity.

The meeting concluded with both parties expressing optimism about the potential benefits of collaboration between the Royal Institute of British Architects and Ogun State.
