SEQUEL TO his reverting to the old national anthem, President Bola Tinubu has explained why, on May 29, he took the decisive action to enact legislation that restored the chorale, a move reflecting his deep-seated conviction regarding its significance.

He affirmed his commitment to reinstating the old national anthem, “Nigeria, we hail thee,” during a meeting with the leadership of the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) at the presidential villa in Abuja.

Addressing concerns raised about the prioritization of this measure amidst pressing national issues, Tinubu emphasized its importance to him personally and to the nation as a whole.

He acknowledged the diversity of opinions surrounding the decision but underscored his obligation to uphold laws enacted by the National Assembly.

Asserting the value of Nigeria’s diversity, Tinubu highlighted the nation’s collective identity as Nigerians, irrespective of ethnic or regional affiliations.

He stressed the importance of preserving unity and fostering mutual respect and understanding among citizens.

Reflecting on the origins of Nigeria’s name and the unity it symbolizes, Tinubu emphasized the inherent bond that unites all Nigerians as members of one family.

He emphasized the divine providence that determines one’s nationality and emphasized the need to transcend ethnic considerations in national discourse and governance.

The president also expressed his unwavering commitment to national unity and cohesion, which transcends ethnic and regional divides, noting that by prioritizing the restoration of the old national anthem, he has demonstrated his dedication to preserving Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage while fostering a sense of belonging and unity among all citizens.
