RESTORATION of the national grid following the relaxation of the strike by the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) has been announced by the National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE).
NUEE National President, Adebiyi Adeyeye, confirmed this development in an interview on Tuesday, stating, “The strike has been relaxed, which means the grid has come back to normal. It is on already.”
Organized labour commenced a nationwide strike on Monday in response to the Federal Government’s refusal to increase the proposed minimum wage from N60,000 and to reverse the Band A electricity tariff from N206 per kilowatt-hour to N65/KWh.
As part of the strike action, electricity workers shut down the national grid, leading to a nationwide blackout.
In response, the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) reported that its on-duty workers were assaulted by union leaders who forcibly removed them from their posts.
However, Adeyeye refuted these claims, asserting that the union simply withdrew its members in line with the directives of the organized labour.
The organized labour has now relaxed the strike for five days to resume negotiations with the federal government for a minimum wage exceeding N60,000.
