NIGERIA POLICE Force’s dedication to ensuring the safety and security of the state’s residents has received Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun’s commendation as he expressed his appreciation to them.
He told the team of top officers during a courtesy visit to his office on Tuesday with Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) for the South West region, Mr. Abiodun Alabi, who led a team of other senior officers.
The governor praised the police for their unwavering commitment to their constitutional duties, particularly their effective collaboration with other security agencies.
He noted that this partnership, involving the Army, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and the local security outfit Amotekun, has significantly contributed to the state’s peaceful environment.
This, in turn, has fostered a conducive atmosphere for investment and business activities.
“We have seen remarkable cooperation from the police force, working hand-in-hand with other security agencies to maintain peace in our state,” the governor stated. “These efforts have been instrumental in creating a safe environment that encourages economic growth and attracts investors.”
The governor also highlighted the successful joint operations between the Lagos, Ogun and Oyo states’ police commands, particularly in curbing criminal activities along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, adding that this collaboration has notably reduced the crime rate in the area, enhancing safety for commuters and residents alike.
He also extended his gratitude to the Inspector General of Police for the continued support and to the State Commissioner of Police for exemplary performance as he also commended DIG Alabi for his proactive approach in visiting the region to assess the situation on the ground and for his engagement with local communities.
Responding, DIG Alabi emphasized the importance of engaging with key stakeholders to enhance community policing. His visit, in line with the Inspector General’s directive, aimed to evaluate the security situation across the region and develop effective strategies to address emerging challenges.
DIG Alabi thanked Governor Abiodun for his steadfast support of the police force and assured that his men are committed to stepping up their efforts to provide robust security for the state. He acknowledged that while the Southwest faces some issues like kidnapping and cultism, it remains relatively peaceful compared to other regions.
“No society is completely free of crime,” DIG Alabi remarked. “Crime is a dynamic phenomenon that requires constant vigilance and adaptive strategies. We are committed to revisiting our strategies and implementing effective policing plans to address any resurgence of criminal activities.”
He assured the public that his team has identified crime-prone areas and is focused on enhancing security measures across the Southwest. Despite being an industrial hub, Ogun State remains one of the most peaceful states, and ongoing efforts aim to maintain and improve this status.
In a related development, Governor Abiodun has appointed three consultants to oversee the aviation sector in Ogun State.
This announcement was made on Tuesday through a statement issued by the Secretary to the Ogun State Government (SSG), Mr. Tokunbo Talabi.
The appointments come in preparation for the launch of the Gateway International Agro-Cargo Airport, a landmark project poised to enhance the state’s economic infrastructure.
The newly appointed consultants are Capt. Dapo Olumide, who will serve as the Consultant on Airport Management; Engr. Benedict Adeyileka, as the Consultant on Regulatory Matters (Aviation); and Engr. Mohammed Odunowo, as the Consultant on Aviation.
Also, these appointments were made based on the extensive and relevant expertise of the appointees in both national and international aviation sectors, adding that their roles are crucial as the state gears up for the airport’s opening, which is expected to significantly boost agro-business and cargo transport in the region.
“The expertise and experience of these appointees in the aviation sector, both nationally and internationally, were key factors in their selection,” the statement added.
