Move On At Maah

By E-ben Anorue

I’VE BEEN on my own in the Maah District. All of a sudden, this belligerent fellow surface to begin to develop structures around my living quarters and I’m wondering where the audacity came from. Fighting is not the first thing. I need clarity. I’m surprised to later learn that my apartment owner entered a bargain with him, selling off a part of the property.

You did what (my mind kept screaming)? And you did not deem it fit to have notified your tenant so that he could gradually adjust to the new reality you put him in?

Impunity has thrived for long in our society so what’s the use if I have to quarrel with either the owner for the manner he handled the issue, or even the new neighbour? Alternatively, I could just leave the apartment once I’m done with my tenancy and ready to move elsewhere.

Option two is better. The atmosphere is already saturated with a lot of hangovers stemming from past hurts because of interpersonal conflicts, that were not resolved properly so why add mine to it?

Different suggestions pouring in from those concerned. I do not have the energy for engaging anyone at this time, in the face of so much I got to achieve. Not all lawsuits have ended well and when the financial implications of hiring an attorney and all others are considered in an environment that does little or nothing to uphold the principles of justice and equity, what then are you expected to do?

Right thinking involves making the community we live in as conducive as possible for us all, even when some people decide to behave like the odd one out of the pack of peace lovers. Let this go. Someday, reason might prevail and the needful will be done.

With all that I am currently grappling with, should I include this? Move on, I told myself.
