EXPRESSING EXCITEMENT over an independent assessment by online media platforms that rated the state highly for projects’ delivery among first-term governors in Nigeria, Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has said it is a piece of news worth celebrating for him and citiens.

Speaking during a Sallah solidarity visit by a delegation led by Alhaji Nasir Awhelebe Uhor, Vice President-General and Chairman of the Association of South-South Muslim Ummah of Nigeria, Fubara emphasized that his administration’s achievements are evident and life-changing.

The visit took place at the Government House in Port Harcourt on Monday, where Uhor, also Chairman of the Rivers State Council for Islamic Affairs (RSCIA), led the delegation.

The governor noted that the administration’s achievements are well-documented and visible to all, noting that the state’s high ranking on social media platforms such as X/Twitter reflects the genuine development efforts undertaken. “We are not talking about a 2-kilometre road project or building one primary school. We are talking about life-changing projects,” the governor said, emphasizing the significant impact of these initiatives.

Despite not being active on social media, Fubara acknowledged the recognition and credited divine grace for the steady progress in governance. “It is a difficult system, but one with God is one with the majority. So, when you have God around, you need to fear nothing,” he stated, expressing confidence in the administration’s responsible governance and commitment to the welfare of Rivers people.

He reassured that the administration is dedicated to promoting coexistence among all residents, irrespective of their religious beliefs.

Addressing concerns from the Muslim community, he promised to investigate issues regarding burial grounds within the Port Harcourt cemetery and the request to build a mosque at Rivers State University. “But that of the state worship centre, we will do something about it immediately,” he added, stressing the importance of religious centres in reducing crime by instilling the fear of God in the populace.

He then encouraged Muslim faithful to continue obeying the law and working harmoniously with other residents, assuring them of the state government’s ongoing support.

Responding, Alhaji Nasir Awhelebe Uhor, thanked the governor for his commitment to promoting freedom of worship and inclusive policies.

He stressed the inter-religious tolerance in Rivers State, noting the mutual agreement between Muslim and Christian groups to pray together for peace, reaffirming the resolve of Muslims in Rivers State to support the governor’s development agenda and avoid actions that could disrupt governance.
