TOWARDS ADVANCING its judicial infrastructure, former President Dr. Goodluck Jonathan inaugurated the new Delta State High Court Complex in Asaba on Tuesday

The event also saw the presentation of 20 Toyota Prado SUVs to judges, underlining the state government’s commitment to improving judicial operations as Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and residents witnessed the occasion.

Dr. Jonathan lauded the governor for prioritizing infrastructural development and continuing projects initiated by previous administrations.

“Projects that are essential for the state’s growth and development should be carried forward by successive governments, and Governor Oborevwori has exemplified this continuity,” Jonathan stated.

He also described the new judiciary headquarters as one of the finest in the country, which he said is a testament to Delta State’s commitment to excellence.

The former President also commended Oborevwori for his integrity, citing his return of over N500 million in unutilized funds to the state treasury during his tenure as Speaker of the State House of Assembly.

Jonathan noted, “Returning unspent funds to the government is a rare feat among public officers. This action reflects a high level of integrity and trustworthiness.”

Jonathan urged Delta State’s citizens to support their governor, emphasizing the importance of collective effort for the state’s progress. “Bringing down a government for political reasons ultimately harms the state or country. We must all support those in leadership to ensure the proper use of public resources for our collective growth.”

The governor reiterated his dedication to completing inherited projects, highlighting that the judiciary was previously the only government arm without a suitable building and expressed satisfaction with the new complex, stating, “This modern facility will enhance the administration of justice for the greater good.”

The High Court Complex boasts impressive features, including five floors, six courtrooms, conference halls, witness waiting rooms, holding cells, secretarial offices, a ceremonial hall, multipurpose hall, lounges, and a library. Commissioner for Housing Mr. Godknows Angele detailed these amenities, reflecting the government’s commitment to providing a conducive environment for judicial operations.

Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, represented by Justice Bolaji Yusuf, praised the state government’s efforts in creating a magnificent judicial edifice and expressed hope that other states would follow Delta’s example in improving their judicial infrastructures.

Also, Delta State Chief Judge, Justice Theresa Diai, expressed gratitude to the governor and his predecessors for completing the complex, calling it a testament to their commitment to justice and excellence. She noted the inclusion of modern IT facilities, such as internet access, e-filing, and e-payment systems, which will enhance judicial processes.

During his visit to Government House Asaba, Abubakar received a Certificate of Occupancy for 66.6 hectares of land allocated to the Air Force.

Abubakar acknowledged the state’s cooperation over the years and praised the governor’s achievements in his first year in office. “Governor Oborevwori’s MORE Agenda is a beacon of hope and a catalyst for Delta State’s transformation,” he remarked.

He emphasized that the state’s efforts align with the M.O.R.E agenda, aimed at enhancing peace and security, which are crucial for sustainable development.
