REACTING TO a viral video circulating on social media, specifically on platform X, that shows a fuel pump attendant at one of their filling stations, NNPC Retail Limited has labelled as false, the claims being made in it.

The footage alleges that customers were forced to buy lubricants or engine oil before being allowed to purchase Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol.

The attendant in the video claims this directive came from NNPC Retail Management.

However, NNPC Retail has categorically denied these allegations, asserting that such practices are not part of the company’s Customer Service Charter.

This was confirmed by Olufemi Soneye, Chief Corporate Communications Officer, NNPC Ltd., in a press release from Abuja on June 30, 2024, posted on the company’s X page.

He notes that the company emphasizes that at no NNPC Retail filling station are customers required to purchase additional products, such as lubricants or engine oil, in order to buy petrol.

Also, Huub Stokman, the Managing Director of NNPC Retail Ltd, addressed the incident, stating, “We are committed to offering transparent and quality service to our customers. Their needs will always be met without imposing any unnecessary or unscrupulous conditions.”

NNPC Retail has also urged the public to disregard the claims made in the video and to report any similar incidents to the relevant authorities and noted that the company has initiated an investigation into the matter and assures that appropriate disciplinary measures will be taken against those responsible.
