PROMOTION OF 5,042 officers of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has been announced in a recent exercise aimed at bolstering operational effectiveness.

This move, which includes elevating two senior officers to the rank of Deputy Commander General of Narcotics and promoting others across various ranks, highlights the agency’s commitment to enhancing human resource management.

Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), speaking at a ceremony in Abuja on Wednesday, emphasized the importance of timely promotions as a cornerstone of his leadership agenda and highlighted ongoing efforts to motivate staff and improve welfare, crucial for achieving the agency’s objectives effectively.

“This promotion exercise reflects our dedication to breaking the cycle of stagnation and fostering a more dynamic workforce,” said Gen. Marwa. “It is a testament to our resolve to strengthen the agency’s capacity in combating drug trafficking and abuse across Nigeria.”

Under Gen. Marwa’s tenure, NDLEA has pursued aggressive reforms such as the introduction of strategic commands in key locations and the deployment of body cameras to enhance operational transparency and officer safety.

In his address, Gen. Marwa commended the agency’s achievements in dismantling drug cartels, seizing illicit substances, and prosecuting offenders, stressing the importance of upholding integrity and professionalism.

“We have made significant strides in the past three years, but our mission to achieve a drug-free Nigeria requires unwavering commitment and adherence to our core values,” Gen. Marwa stated. “Our focus remains on maintaining high standards and ensuring public trust in our operations.”

The ceremony also saw the recognition of outstanding commands and personnel for their contributions to the agency’s successes in the first half of 2024.

Gen. Marwa concluded by urging NDLEA officers to uphold diligence and integrity in their duties, reaffirming management’s commitment to their welfare and professional growth.

Following the event, Femi Babafemi, NDLEA’s Director of Media & Advocacy, disclosed that Gen. Marwa held a closed-door session with commanders and directors to outline forthcoming tasks aimed at advancing the agency’s operational effectiveness nationwide.

Babafemi also notes that this promotion exercise marks a significant step in NDLEA’s efforts to fortify its operational capabilities and maintain its pivotal role in national security and public health.
