PRESIDENT BOLA Tinubu hailed former Ogun State Governor Aremo Olusegun Osoba as a remarkable Nigerian.
He spoke at the launch of Osoba’s autobiography, “My Life in the Public Eye,” marking his 85th birthday at Eko Hotels and Suites, Lagos.
Vice President Kashim Shettima represented the President.
Tinubu commended Osoba’s pivotal role in Nigeria’s return to democracy through his work with the National Democratic Coalition (NADECO).
He also highlighted Osoba’s contribution to forming the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Tinubu praised Osoba for consistently engaging in discussions that positively impact Nigeria.
The President urged experienced Nigerians to document their experiences for future generations.
He acknowledged the country’s economic challenges and reassured the public that efforts to address food shortages were underway.
Tinubu encouraged Nigerians to grow their food to mitigate the crisis.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio lauded Osoba’s contributions to national development.
He described Osoba as a great nationalist and praised his efforts in writing the book to benefit future generations.
Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun recalled Osoba’s journalism career, including his coverage of the 1966 civil war and the discovery of the bodies of Prime Minister Tafawa Balewa and Finance Minister Chief Festus Okotie-Eboh.
Abiodun praised Osoba’s tenure as Governor for his dedication, integrity, and commitment to public service.
He credited Osoba with significant contributions to Ogun State’s development in education, healthcare, rural electrification, infrastructure, and agriculture.
Abiodun noted that Osoba’s efforts in rural development were unprecedented, reducing rural-urban migration by bringing development to rural areas.
The Governor stated that the occasion reflected Osoba’s ideals of good governance, freedom, fairness, inclusiveness, equity, and justice.
Secretary to the Government of the Federation George Akume praised Osoba as an intelligent man with insightful views on national and political issues.
He appreciated Osoba for documenting his public service experience.
Deputy Governor of Lagos State Dr. Femi Hamzat, representing Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, called Osoba a prolific writer passionate about Nigeria’s development.
He urged young journalists to focus on constructive commentary that benefits the nation.
Former Commonwealth Secretary Chief Emeka Anyaoku praised Osoba as a distinguished Nigerian who shaped the Daily Times of Nigeria into a leading newspaper.
He recognized Osoba’s contributions to journalism and national development.
