NNPC Vows Immediate Action to Resolve Fuel Crisis in Lagos and Abuja

By Joke Kujenya

THE NIGERIAN National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) Ltd disclosed it has identified the cause of the recent fuel shortage in Lagos and Abuja.

A discharge hitch involving several vessels led to the disruption.

Olufemi Soneye, Chief Corporate Communications Officer at NNPC Ltd, shared this information in a statement from Abuja on July 27, 2024.

Residents in Lagos and the Federal Capital Territory have experienced long queues and closed filling stations over the past two days.

Mr. Ikechukwu Kennedy, a resident of Kubwa, Abuja, confirmed that the NNPCL station at FHA Kubwa hasn’t sold fuel since Thursday.

The situation extends beyond Abuja.

Stations in Niger, Nasarawa, and Kogi states also closed, causing widespread inconvenience.

Media reports indicate that retail outlets, including those operated by NNPCL on the Kubwa-Zuba expressway, halted fuel distribution.

Oil marketers have expressed concerns about the planned nationwide protest, which exacerbated the supply issue.

This worry led to a shutdown of several stations as a precautionary measure.

NNPC Ltd has assured the public that they are working around the clock with stakeholders to resolve the situation.

Efforts to restore normal operations are ongoing, aiming to alleviate the fuel scarcity as soon as possible.
