THE NATIONAL Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has suspended monthly clearance and weekly community development services for corps members across Nigeria.
This decision comes ahead of the planned protests scheduled to begin on August 1.
The protests, under the banner “End Bad Governance in Nigeria,” are set to run from August 1 to August 10.
A memo sent to State Coordinators, Local Government Inspectors (LGIs), and Zonal Inspectors (ZIs) outlined the suspension.
The memo states that corps members should not wear their uniforms during this period. It emphasizes the NYSC’s policy against participation in protests.
The memo assures corps members that they will be attended to in their regular clothes.
The NYSC promotes unity and will not tolerate any corps member engaging in protests that could lead to disorder.
The date for resuming these activities will be announced later.
In Lagos, the NYSC state coordinator, Yetunde Baderinwa, instructed corps members to adhere to NYSC policy and avoid protests.
She warned that those who violate this policy will face disciplinary actions.
The National Orientation Agency (NOA) also advised against protests.
Director-General Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu acknowledged the country’s hardships but urged Nigerians to stay away from the streets.
