Gov Abiodun Calls on Youths to Reject Protests and Seek Constructive Engagement

GOVERNOR DAPO Abiodun has urged Nigerian youths to avoid being swayed by misleading movements sponsored by frustrated politicians.

He emphasized the importance of engaging with the government constructively instead of participating in planned nationwide protests in August.

Speaking at the 22nd undergraduate and 13th postgraduate convocation ceremonies of Babcock University in Ilishan, Abiodun highlighted the negative impact of past protests on the nation.

He questioned, “Which investor will be attracted to a nation under siege by protesters?”

He warned against being used by leaderless movements and stressed the need for dialogue over demonstrations.

Abiodun pointed out that the current inflation is a global issue, affecting countries like the UK, US, Ghana, and Egypt, not just Nigeria.

He urged youths to work with the government to find lasting solutions rather than engage in potentially destructive protests.

He mentioned that previous protests only led to losses in productivity, lives, property, and assets.

The governor defended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s economic policies, stating that the government had to take bold steps, such as removing subsidies and floating the Naira, to address economic challenges.

He noted that these measures, though tough, were necessary to avoid worse outcomes.

Abiodun highlighted several government initiatives to mitigate the effects of inflation, including a new minimum wage, student loans, agricultural support, and food palliatives.

Abiodun praised Babcock University for its academic excellence and innovation.

He encouraged the graduates to be good ambassadors of their alma mater and continue to pursue their dreams.

He assured that his administration would prioritize education and provide quality, affordable education for the youth.

Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, also attended the event and praised the honoree, Chief Wole Olanipekun, as one of the best from Ekiti State.

The ceremony’s highlight was the award of N2.5 million to Ifoghale Elomezino Oghenemairo, the best graduating student with a CGPA of 4.89 from the Department of History and International Relations.

Allottees cautioned Not to Seel Allocated Land

In another development, the Ogun State Government warned allottees of the Ibara Regeneration Scheme not to sell their allocated land.

Commissioner for Housing, Jagunmolu Jamiu Omoniyi, stressed that the state aims to create a world-class city comparable to Banana Island.

He stated that any attempt to resell the land would result in immediate revocation of the allocation.

Omoniyi explained that the scheme aims to transform Ibara GRA into a modern estate, providing accommodation for residents and boosting the state’s economy.

He emphasized that the administration’s vision is to revolutionize housing in Ogun State and that allottees must start construction within 60 days of allocation.

The commissioner highlighted the economic value of the Ibara Estate, noting that it sits on 32 hectares of land valued at over N20 billion.

He reassured stakeholders that the administration is committed to creating a state-of-the-art city that will increase property value and attract investments.

The Osi of Egbaland, Chief Bode Mustapha, and the Vice Chairman of the Egba Economic Summit, Dr. Gbenga Adeoye, lauded Governor Abiodun’s efforts to rejuvenate Abeokuta.

They called for enhanced security in the Ibara GRA to protect residents from potential threats.
