LAGOS LAWMAKERS met on Thursday, urging Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to take steps to avert a planned nationwide protest.

Majority Leader Noheem Adams raised the issue, reminding the Assembly of the 2020 EndSARS protests’ devastation.

The Assembly called for town hall meetings with key stakeholders to find ways to calm the youth and others supporting the protest.

The House proposed two meetings. One between the governor and elected officials, including senators and state lawmakers.

Another with traditional rulers, religious leaders, market heads, and transport sector representatives.

Speaker Mudashiru Obasa stressed the importance of calming tensions and protecting lives and property.

He appealed to the youth to be patient with the government’s efforts.

Dr. Obasa noted that Lagos is still recovering from the EndSARS protests and pointed out that other countries, like Kenya, Sudan, and Syria, faced similar issues.

He praised Lagos Police Commissioner Adegoke Fayoade for engaging with community heads about the planned protest.

Obasa called for an urgent meeting with all state leaders to dissuade the youth from protesting.

Hon. Adams emphasized the need to avoid the protest, highlighting President Tinubu’s positive actions, such as raising the minimum wage from N30,000 to N70,000.

Hon. Kehinde Joseph expressed concern over the lack of protest leaders for dialogue.

He urged for patience, noting the nationwide impact of current issues.

Hon. Sa’ad Olumoh praised President Tinubu’s understanding of Nigeria’s problems and urged citizens to focus on their governors as federal allocations to states have increased.

Lawmakers urged parents to advise their children against joining the protest and being used for criminal activities.
