NDLEA Nabs Businessman with Cocaine in Sandals, Disrupts Major Drug Syndicates Nationwide

FRANCIS AKAJIOBI, a 50-year-old Spain-based businessman, was arrested by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) at Lagos Airport with cocaine hidden in his sandals.

He was caught at the departure hall of Terminal 2, Murtala Muhammed International Airport, trying to board a Royal Air Maroc flight to Madrid.

Two parcels of cocaine, weighing 1.20 kilograms, were hidden in his black sandals.

Akajiobi said he got the consignment at a bar in Port Harcourt and was to deliver it to a friend in Spain for €5,000.

Makinde Sodiq Lekan was arrested with 99 parcels of Canadian Loud cannabis, weighing 51.60 kg, at the SAHCO Imports shed of Lagos airport.

The shipment arrived on a Turkish Airlines flight from Canada via Istanbul.

Special Operations Unit operatives arrested Chukwuemaka Obodozie, a major syndicate kingpin, on July 21 at Cele bus stop in Lagos.

He was caught with 100,000 tablets of tramadol 225mg, loaded in two bags. The arrest followed five months of surveillance.

On July 26, NDLEA operatives raided Owena Forest in Osun State, arresting 17 suspects and destroying 31,250 kg of cannabis on 12.5 hectares.

They recovered 84 kg of processed cannabis and a single barrel Dane gun. The suspects included Peter Osuya, 51, and 16 others.

In Kaduna, Ubaida Aliyu, 32, was caught on July 27 with 573 rounds of live ammunition intended for bandits in Sokoto.

Godwin Udochukwu, 35, was arrested the same day with 25,000 ampoules of Pentazocine injection along Kaduna-Zaria highway. Alkasim Mikailu, 35, was nabbed in Kano with 37,880 ampoules of Diazepam injection.

Abioye Adeniyi, 39, and Rafiu Lekan, 41, were arrested with 55 jumbo wraps of Ghana Loud on Badagry-Seme Road.

Samson Ifeayi Egwutouhi, 30, was caught with 20 blocks of compressed cannabis sativa weighing 10.5 kg along Okene-Lokoja-Abuja expressway.

Suleiman Yahaya, 50, and Ibrahim Bello, 35, were arrested in Bauchi with 315 blocks of cannabis sativa weighing 204.75 kg.

NDLEA’s War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) continued in schools, worship centers, workplaces, and communities.

The campaign included lectures for students in Sokoto, Oyo, Anambra, Adamawa, and Lagos.

NDLEA Chairman Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa applauded his men for their efforts in reducing drug supply and demand, urging them to keep up the good work.
