GOVERNOR DAPO Abiodun of Ogun State has assured shop owners affected by a destructive fire at Oba Lipede International Market in Abeokuta of the government’s support to recover from the losses incurred.

The fire, which occurred on Saturday night, ravaged several shops selling fabrics, food items, tailoring services, and various dry goods.

During his visit to the market to assess the damage caused by the inferno, Governor Abiodun expressed sympathy for the affected traders and emphasized the state government’s commitment to providing immediate relief.

He announced that an enumeration exercise would be conducted to accurately assess the extent of the losses suffered by the shop owners, with the goal of swiftly assisting them to resume their businesses.

“We are deeply saddened by the losses suffered by our people here—those selling fabrics, food items, tailors, and others.

“Fortunately, our fire service responded promptly, preventing the fire from spreading further,” Governor Abiodun remarked.

He reassured the affected traders that they were not alone in their plight and that the government would intervene responsibly to support them during this challenging time.

“As a responsible government, we will step in and provide the necessary assistance so that they can continue their businesses,” he affirmed.

The governor also highlighted plans to investigate the cause of the fire to prevent future occurrences.

He directed the Bureau of Electrical Services to improve the lighting and illumination in the market, which was constructed over 40 years ago, to enhance safety measures.

His visit and commitments underscore the state government’s proactive stance in addressing emergencies and supporting local businesses affected by disasters, aiming to restore normalcy and prevent such incidents in the future.
