SPARING ONLY Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, President William Ruto has dismissed his entire Cabinet in response to the recent youth-led protests against his government.

The announcement was made in a televised address where Ruto cited the need for a broad-based government to tackle the country’s challenges.

Ruto’s decision followed weeks of nationwide protests that erupted due to planned tax hikes.

These protests, which turned violent, resulted in the deaths of at least 39 people.

Demonstrators had stormed parliament, forcing Ruto to abandon the proposed taxes.

The President stated that government operations would continue under the guidance of Principal Secretaries and other officials while he consults with various sectors to reconstitute the Cabinet.

He also said that he plans to create a government that will address issues such as debt management, job creation, and corruption.

The dismissal also included Attorney-General Justin Muturi.

Ruto emphasized the need for public and private sector input in forming a new Cabinet.

He aims to establish a government capable of implementing radical programs to alleviate the nation’s burdens.

Veteran anti-corruption activist John Githongo welcomed the changes, stating that new ministers must address corruption and the excesses of the previous administration.

Community activist Ojango Omondi echoed this sentiment, stressing the importance of appointing accountable individuals to the Cabinet.

President Ruto’s move aims to calm the political crisis sparked by the protests.

However, demonstrators continue to demand his resignation and plan more protests amid his decision to engage in national dialogue which has received mixed reactions, with many protesters rejecting it and insisting on meeting their demands.
