PRESIDENT BOLA Tinubu praised the Supreme Court of Nigeria for affirming the constitutional rights of local governments.

The President highlighted that ineffective local government administration has hindered the nation’s progress.

He urged local council leaders to ensure residents benefit from people-oriented services.

“The Renewed Hope Agenda focuses on all Nigerians, regardless of faith, tribe, gender, or political affiliation.

“This ruling empowers citizens, especially the poor, to hold local leaders accountable.

“Funds sent to local government accounts must now be transparent, and services provided without excuses,” Tinubu declared.

He noted that his administration pursued this case to provide relief for the people.

“This judgment ensures that only elected local officials will manage public resources. It stands as proof that we can use legal means to restructure our nation and economy, making Nigeria fairer for everyone,” Tinubu added.

The President emphasized that essential services, such as road maintenance, street lighting, and community security, have suffered due to the weakened state of local governments.

He affirmed that the Supreme Court’s decision on financial autonomy for local governments is historically significant.

It reinforces efforts to enhance Nigeria’s federal structure for nationwide development.

Tinubu commended the Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, for his diligent work on this case.

He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to upholding the principles governing citizens and government institutions, aiming for an efficient governance system that benefits all Nigerians.
