THE OGUN State government dismissed claims that Governor Dapo Abiodun called Nigerians sore losers over the #EndBadGovernance protests.
The government stated that Abiodun was referring to certain 2023 election losers exploiting youth discontent to create instability.
In a statement, Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Hon. Kayode Akinmade, clarified that Abiodun’s comments were misinterpreted.
He explained that the governor never suggested that ordinary Nigerians expressing frustration with economic hardships were sore losers.
Instead, he criticized political opponents of President Bola Tinubu for using the protests to advance their agendas.
Akinmade noted that the governor recently praised Ogun residents, especially the youth, for their non-violent conduct and reiterated his administration’s commitment to their well-being.
The statement emphasized that Abiodun’s remarks targeted certain opposition figures, not the general public.
The governor’s comments, Akinmade added, were meant to address opposition leaders who he believes are undermining the government.
He accused these opponents of distorting Abiodun’s words and of launching attacks on his office.
The government labeled the accusation of Abiodun insulting ordinary Nigerians as unfounded and malicious.
They stressed that any interpretation suggesting otherwise is an attempt to distort the context of his statements.
Abiodun, according to the statement, holds a deep respect for the protesters and has expressed this sentiment on several occasions.
