SUNDAY, AUGUST 4, 2024, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will speak to Nigerians at 7:00am.
His address will come amid ongoing protests over economic hardship and rising living costs.
The President has faced rallies across Nigeria’s 36 states and Abuja.
These protests reflect widespread frustration with the country’s severe inflation and economic crises.
His spokesman, Ajuri Ngelale, confirmed the upcoming broadcast in a statement.
“Television, radio, and other electronic media are instructed to tune into the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) and the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) for the broadcast.”
The speech will also be replayed at 3:00 pm and 7:00 pm on the same day.
Nigerians have struggled with skyrocketing prices of food and basic commodities.
The economic crisis stems from the government’s removal of petrol subsidies and unification of forex windows.
These policies have led to one of the worst inflation rates in the country’s history.
Protests branded #EndBadGovernance have entered their third day, with youth groups demanding action.
They call for the restoration of petrol subsidies, a stable forex regime, and solutions to food shortages and unemployment.
Protesters also want the government to cut wasteful spending, reduce the President’s cabinet, and lower the cost of governance.
They demand immediate reforms of the electoral body INEC and the anti-graft agency EFCC to strengthen the fight against corruption.
Nigerians note they await Tinubu’s address, hoping for solutions to these pressing issues.
