Ogun Gov Clones Farm Labs as Key to Nigeria’s Food Security

GOVERNOR DAPO Abiodun of Ogun State has endorsed the establishment of farm labs as essential for achieving food security in Nigeria.

During his visit to the Soilless Farm Lab in Awowo, Ewekoro Local Government area, he emphasized the importance of Nigerians embracing agriculture and adopting a culture of growing and consuming local produce.

Drawing a parallel with a similar model he observed in Israel, where communities live and work on farm settlements, the governor commended the Soilless Farm Lab as an exemplary model.

He plans to promote the creation of similar initiatives across Ogun State and believes the federal government will also back this effort.

To support this initiative, Governor Abiodun announced the waiver of all fees for title documents related to the farm.

The state government will expedite the issuance of these documents within 24 hours, free of charge.

In addition, Governor Abiodun donated N20 million to the farm trainees, expressing his admiration for their dedication and enthusiasm.

He praised Samson Ogbole, the team lead, for his role in training over 10,000 individuals since September 2020, including 6,000 young people from 28 states and several foreigners.

Governor Abiodun highlighted the farm lab’s success in training and job creation, describing it as a prime example of effective public-private partnership.

He also commended Oba Abdul-Fatai Olasunkanmi Tijani of Awowo for supporting the farm lab project, despite previous administrative hesitations.

The farm lab’s “Work and Learn” program, which combines practical work experience with training, has successfully engaged numerous trainees, providing them with skills and opportunities while contributing to local and national food security efforts
