Russian Embassy Distances Itself from Involvement in Nigerian Protests

THE RUSSIAN Embassy in Nigeria has responded to recent protests in the northern region where demonstrators waved Russian flags.

The incident drew attention after videos and images showed protesters marching, chanting slogans, and holding placards with various messages.

In a statement, the embassy acknowledged the media reports and the widespread circulation of protest imagery.

It emphasized that neither the Russian government nor its officials were involved in organizing or supporting these activities.

“The Embassy has noted the reports in Nigerian media and the circulation of videos and images in digital media depicting protesters in northern states of the country carrying Russian flags and chanting slogans to Russian President Vladimir Putin,” the statement read.

“The Government of the Russian Federation as well as any Russian officials are not involved in these activities and do not coordinate them in any way.”

The embassy aims to dispel misconceptions and reaffirm Russia’s commitment to respecting Nigeria’s sovereignty and internal affairs.

It distanced the Russian government from any involvement in the protests, underscoring Russia’s longstanding policy of non-interference in other countries’ domestic affairs.

The actions of the protesters, it clarified, were personal initiatives and did not reflect any official stance or policy of the Russian government.
