THE RIVERS State House of Assembly has confirmed the appointment of five commissioner nominees submitted by Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
The confirmation occurred during a plenary session in Port Harcourt on Tuesday.
The nominees, including Hon Samuel Eyiba from Ahoada West, Ilamu Arugu from Abua/Odual, Dr Roland Obed-Whyte from Degema, Hon Samuel Anya from Abia State, and Sir Austin Emeka Nnadozie from Etche, were screened after the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Victor Oko-Jumbo, read the Governor’s letter requesting their confirmation.
The nominees answered various questions related to state policies during their appearance before the House. Following the questioning, the Assembly conducted a voice vote, leading to the confirmation of all five nominees.
Speaker Oko-Jumbo directed the House Clerk to inform the Governor of the successful confirmation, paving the way for the swearing-in of the nominees as members of the State Executive Council.
After the confirmation, the Assembly resumed discussions on the Rivers State Vocational and Technical Training Bill 2024.
The bill passed its second reading and was referred to an Ad-Hoc Committee chaired by Deputy Speaker Hon. Adolphus Orubienimigha for further review.
The committee has two weeks to hold a public hearing and submit its report.
Additionally, the Leader of the House, Hon Sokari Goodboy Sokari, requested more time for the Ad-Hoc Committee on the Rivers State Transport Company Reform Bill 2024 to finalize its report.
The Speaker granted a two-week extension to ensure the committee completes its work.
