RIVERS STATE Police have confirmed that Preye Josiah, the suspected dynamite bomber, will face charges after a thorough investigation.
Josiah, who was injured during the incident, has undergone three surgeries.
Police disclosed that he will be prosecuted in a court of competent jurisdiction once investigations are complete.
On June 25, 2024, a dynamite explosion occurred along the Port Harcourt-Aba Motorway, causing widespread concern.
Josiah, also known as Metusah, hails from Kabiama Community in Sagbama Local Government Area.
JKNewsMedia reports that he was linked to a series of high-profile bank robberies led by Daniel Gogo between 2012 and 2016.
Despite resisting arrest, Josiah was captured by the authorities.
Recovered items included three AK47 rifles, a Lar rifle, 360 rounds of live ammunition, 20 magazines, five dynamites, two pistols, rifle servicing equipment, and three cars in Bayelsa State.
These discoveries further implicated Josiah, who was identified as a member of the Viking Confraternity and an expert in handling explosives.
The most recent attack occurred on August 12, 2024, at 12:30 am.
The explosion targeted the All-Peoples Party (APP) secretariat on Tombia Extension, GRA Phase 2, Port Harcourt.
A force team led by the Commissioner of Police and experts from the Explosives Ordinance Disposal (EOD/Anti-Bomb) Squad responded immediately.
According to police spokesperson Grace Iringe-Koko, the explosion caused significant damage, though no lives were lost.
Witnesses reported seeing two unidentified men set up the explosive device before fleeing the scene.
The police are actively pursuing all leads and have urged the public to remain vigilant.
