THE ILAJE community in Bariga, Lagos State, faces significant healthcare challenges, including access to eye care and treatment for chronic diseases.
Addressing these issues, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) Ltd has expanded its Vision First Programme has brought the much-needed medical services directly to the residents.
Through this initiative, over 1,000 individuals have received free healthcare services, including eye care, cardiovascular screenings, BMI assessments, and treatment for various ailments.
The programme also distributed insecticide-treated nets to help combat malaria, a prevalent health issue in the region.
Since its inception, the NNPC Vision First Programme has positively impacted the lives of over 1,853 people.
The recent Lagos edition, launched in 2022, screened 2,000 individuals, provided 1,199 prescription glasses, administered medication to 1,310 people, and successfully performed surgeries on 189 patients.
This programme reflects a broader commitment to improving the quality of life in Nigeria’s underserved communities.
By offering preventive care and treatment, the NNPC Vision First Programme aims to eliminate barriers to good health, particularly preventable vision challenges that could affect the future of many.
The company’s outreach also emphasized the importance of regular health check-ups, a balanced diet, and adequate rest in maintaining good health.
Participants were encouraged to take proactive steps in managing their health, particularly their vision, to secure a brighter future.
