RIVERS STATE Governor Siminalayi Fubara has pledged to maintain a relentless focus on delivering quality governance, despite facing political distractions.

He emphasized that his administration remains committed to fulfilling the expectations of the people, ensuring their well-being through the provision of essential infrastructure and social amenities.

Governor Fubara made these remarks after swearing in five new commissioners and two special advisers at the Government House in Port Harcourt on Wednesday.

The newly appointed commissioners include Hon. Ilamu Arugu (Abua/Odual), Dr. Roland Obed-Whyte (Degema), Sir Austin Emeka Nnadozie (Etche), Hon. Samuel Eyiba (Ahoada West), and Hon. Samuel Anya (Abia State).

The special advisers are Barrister Forgive Amachree (Ahoada-West) and Mr. Achor Nna (Obio-Akpor).

During the ceremony, Governor Fubara urged the appointees to focus on their duties and avoid any actions that could hinder the progress of governance.

He reminded them that their roles are critical to ensuring that the government’s efforts to improve the lives of over eight million Rivers residents are successful.

“We are in the business of governance, not politics,” the Governor stated.

“Our aim is to make the people happy through tangible results, not by getting entangled in political distractions. Rivers people want to see progress, not court cases or protests.

“Your job is to contribute to our report card, and ensure we achieve top marks.”

Governor Fubara congratulated the new team members, expressing confidence in their ability to live up to the expectations of the administration.

He acknowledged that some were known to him personally, while others came highly recommended by their leaders.

Regardless of how they were selected, he charged all appointees with the responsibility of not disappointing the trust placed in them.

The governor also advised Dr. Samuel Anya, who represents non-indigenes, to be inclusive and treat all non-indigenes equally, regardless of their regional backgrounds.

He urged Dr. Anya to act as a unifying figure and ensure the continued support of non-indigenous communities for the administration.

In closing, Governor Fubara reiterated his administration’s commitment to governance that serves the people, not political interests.

He called on his team to remain steadfast in their duties, despite any distractions, and to work diligently to deliver the promises made to the people of Rivers State.
