RUDN University Offers Free Training in Academic Writing and Journalism

RUDN UNIVERSITY, Russia, successfully hosted a professional training programme in partnership with Kwara State University (KWASU), Ilorin.

The event, running from August 12th to 15th, provided free training to participants, focusing on academic writing, research publication, and entrepreneurial journalism.

The programme attracted a diverse group, including scholars, researchers, students, and professionals, eager to enhance their skills.

Led by Dr. Muhammad Jamiu Mustapha from RUDN University, along with a team of experts, the training was also held in Kaduna, Rivers, Osun, and Lagos States.

The Center for Continuing Professional Education at the Faculty of Philology, RUDN University, led by Kristina Abdus, offers a wide range of educational programmes.

These include pre-university preparation, advanced training courses, professional development, and specialist upskilling.

The Lagos arm of the training holds at the Department of Mass Communication, Afe Babalola building at the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Akoka.

The first two days concentrated on academic writing and publishing research articles.

Participants learned how to construct well-structured papers and navigate the complexities of academic publishing.

The sessions included practical assignments with real-time feedback, emphasizing ethical research practices and strategies to avoid plagiarism.

On Wednesday and Thursday, the focus shifted to entrepreneurial journalism.

The training explored the intersection of journalism and business, equipping participants with the skills to create sustainable media ventures.

Branding was highlighted as a key aspect of modern journalism, with exercises on building and promoting a journalist’s personal brand in the digital age.

Looking ahead, RUDN University has announced new online Diploma Programmes in Policy Communication and Law Enforcement Communication.

These six-month virtual courses, starting in September 2024, are designed for professionals in public relations, politics, media, and law enforcement.
