THE WEST African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced the release of the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results for school candidates.

The exams, held from April 30 to June 24, saw 1,805,216 students participate out of the 1,814,736 who registered across 25,126 schools in Nigeria.

WAEC reported that 1,685,889 candidates (93.39%) have had their results processed and released.

However, 119,327 candidates (6.61%) still have pending results due to ongoing processing.

Withheld Results

According to Dr. Amos Dangut, head of WAEC Nigeria, results for 215,267 candidates (11.92%) have been withheld due to examination malpractice.

This represents a decrease from the 16.29% of results withheld in 2023.

The performance analysis showed that 1,332,089 candidates (73.79%) obtained credits in at least five subjects.

Of these, 1,301,941 candidates (72.12%) secured credits in five subjects, including English and Mathematics.

This year’s results reflect a 7.69% drop from the 79.81% pass rate recorded in 2023.

Dr. Dangut assured the public that efforts are underway to finalize the processing of the remaining results.

Special Needs Candidates

Special needs candidates, numbering 109,115, have also had their results processed and released.

These students, including those with visual and hearing impairments, were fully accommodated during the exams.

Gender Breakdown

The gender breakdown showed that 896,894 males and 908,322 females participated in the exam, making up 49.68% and 50.32% of the total candidates, respectively.

Check Your Results

Students can check their results online at www.waecdirect.org by logging in with their examination number, selecting the exam type and year, and entering their e-PIN.

For those using SMS, results can be obtained by sending a text in the format WAECExamNoPIN*ExamYear to 32327.

This SMS service is available for MTN, Glo, and Airtel subscribers.

Certificates will be issued 48 hours after results are checked online, with immediate availability for those who meet all financial obligations to WAEC.
