DADA YAR’ADUA, the mother of Nigeria’s former President, Umaru Musa Yar’adua, has passed away at the age of 102.
She died Monday evening at the Federal Teaching Hospital in Katsina after a brief illness.
Dada Yar’adua was also the mother of the late Shehu Musa Yar’adua, a former Vice President of Nigeria, and Senator Abdulaziz Musa Yar’adua, who currently chairs the Senate Committee on Army.
Her passing marks the end of an era for the Yar’adua family, a household that has been deeply influential in Nigeria’s political landscape.
Umaru Musa Yar’adua, who served as the president of Nigeria from 2007 until his death in 2010, was known for his commitment to governance and reforms during his tenure.
His mother, Dada Yar’adua, played a quiet but significant role in the lives of her children, who rose to prominent positions in Nigeria’s political sphere.
The family has yet to announce the burial arrangements for Dada Yar’adua, but the news of her passing has drawn reactions from across the nation.
Former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, expressed his sorrow, describing her as a mother to many.
He recalled how he considered her a maternal figure after his own mother’s death, emphasizing her warmth and the refuge her home provided to those in need.
She has been described by many Nigerians as a pillar of strength and support behind some of the country’s most influential leaders.
