RIVERS STATE Governor Siminalayi Fubara has called for a deeper partnership between the state and Canada.
He said he aims to attract more investments, boost economic growth, and improve healthcare services.
This appeal came during a private meeting with the Canadian High Commissioner to Nigeria, James Christoff, at the Government House in Port Harcourt.
After the meeting, Christoff spoke to the media, expressing satisfaction with their discussions.
He emphasized Canada’s commitment to strengthening ties with Rivers State.
Christoff highlighted Canada’s support for a Medical Oxygen Plant at Eleme General Hospital, overseen by UNICEF.
He commended the Governor’s prioritization of healthcare and expressed eagerness to witness the positive impact of the facility firsthand.
The Canadian envoy also discussed Rivers State’s abundant natural resources, comparing its wealth to that of Canada.
He expressed Canada’s interest in exploring these resources to benefit both communities.
Christoff emphasized the growing ties between Nigerians and Canadians, noting the importance of these relationships for both nations.
In terms of business development, Christoff mentioned his role in identifying opportunities for Canadian companies in Nigeria.
He highlighted the natural resource sector as a key area for collaboration and expressed optimism about future partnerships between Canada and Rivers State.
Christoff also praised the peaceful environment in Rivers State, noting that the Canadian government and businesses are pleased with the opportunities available.
