LASTMA Warns Lagos Auto Dealers on Illegal Vehicle Displays

By Ajibola Olaide, JKNewsMedia Reporter

A STERN warning has been issued to auto dealers by the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA).

It prohibits their unauthorized display of vehicles for sale on road setbacks, walkways, and other restricted areas.

LASTMA notes that these actions obstruct traffic flow and compromise public safety.

This warning was delivered during a visit by the Lagos Motor Dealers Association to LASTMA’s General-Manager, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, at the agency’s Oshodi headquarters.

Bakare-Oki emphasized the need to maintain order and ensure smooth traffic movement.

He revealed that numerous complaints have been received from Community Development Associations (CDAs) concerning illegal vehicle displays by some auto dealers across the state.

Furthermore, Bakare-Oki highlighted that vehicles placed on roadsides, setbacks, and walkways not only obstruct pedestrian movement but also worsen traffic congestion, posing serious risks to public safety.

He affirmed the Lagos State government’s commitment to enforcing the law against violators, stressing that no tolerance would be shown to those who disrupt public order.

In a statement signed by Adebayo Taofiq, Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment, LASTMA reiterated its resolve to work with relevant agencies to monitor and penalize violators.

The agency also warned that sanctions, including fines and vehicle impoundment, await those who fail to comply with the guidelines.

The Lagos Motor Dealers Association, led by President Prince Leke Aladegbemi, pledged to cooperate with LASTMA and other authorities.

Aladegbemi assured that the association would educate its members on the importance of adhering to state regulations.

Key members of the association, including Mr. Olaniran Adelana (State Secretary), Mr. Obodo Monday (State Assistant Secretary), Comrade Olubukola Ajani, Pastor Kayode Ogunyemi, and Mr. Dorujaiye (Assistant PRO), who all attended the meeting, affirmed their commitment to compliance.
