THE RECENT circulation of false lists claiming approval for the Youth Internship Scheme (YIS) empowerment programme has drawn concerns about fraud.
The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has warned the public against falling victim to these fraudulent lists, which were spread by unknown individuals intending to deceive applicants.
NDDC clarified that it has not approved any lists for the YIS programme.
In a statement posted on their official X account, the commission emphasized that the so-called merited lists are part of a scam aimed at extorting young people eager to benefit from the programme.
The commission, through its Director of Corporate Affairs, Seledi Thompson-Wakama, assured applicants that the selection process for the empowerment programme is still in progress.
Thompson-Wakama made it clear that NDDC will never request personal details or payments from those selected.
He also highlighted the importance of vigilance among the public, urging people to rely on official NDDC platforms for accurate information.
According to the Director, the lists circulating on social media are false and designed to mislead, with the sole intent of defrauding the public.
As part of its transparency efforts, the commission stressed that the final selection list will only be published through its official website and social media accounts once the process is concluded.
Applicants have been asked to exercise patience while the selection continues.
NDDC also reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining fairness and transparency in all its empowerment programmes, assuring the public that no external or unauthorized parties are involved in the selection process.
For verification and updates, the commission advised citizens to use its official website, nddc.gov.ng, and other social media handles.
