NIGERIA FACES mounting challenges as its youth, who form over 60% of the population, confront issues like unemployment, education gaps, and security threats.
Addressing this, President Bola Tinubu announced a transformative 30-day National Youth Conference, aiming to empower the next generation to take charge of their future.
The announcement, made during his Independence Day broadcast, revealed plans to engage young Nigerians in tackling pressing issues such as employment, innovation, and social justice.
“We must make them architects of their future,” Tinubu declared.
The conference seeks to provide a platform for meaningful dialogue, ensuring that the youth have an active role in shaping policies.
Selection of delegates will be done in close consultation with youth representatives to ensure inclusivity and diverse voices.
The government committed to implementing recommendations from the event, emphasizing a desire to build a prosperous and united Nigeria.
In the same speech, Tinubu announced the conferment of national honours, recognizing key figures in the country’s leadership.
Also, Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Chief Justice Kudirat Kekere Ekun received the prestigious Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON).
Meanwhile, the Deputy Senate President, Senator Barau Jibrin, and Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, were awarded the Commander of the Order of the Federal Republic (CFR).
The Deputy Speaker of the House, Hon. Benjamin Kalu, received the Commander of the Order of Niger (CON).
The President affirmed that more recipients would be announced soon, marking the country’s efforts to acknowledge contributions to national growth.
