OGUN STATE announce it has begun a significant overhaul of its education sector by introducing 900 smart classrooms aimed at enhancing digital learning across schools.
This initiative is part of ongoing efforts by the government to modernize the education system, improving student engagement while equipping schools with advanced technology.
In addition to upgrading infrastructure, the state is also working to improve teacher welfare.
The State Governor, Dapo Abiodun says new policies are in place to ensure better pay, training, and resources for educators, improving both their work environment and performance in classrooms.
The governor shared the announcement during the Teachers’ Day celebration, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to quality education.
He also announced a work-free day on Monday, October 6, 2024, to honour teachers.
He also approved the absorption of 1,000 more OgunTeach interns into the state’s teaching service, raising the total number to 5,000.
Governor Abiodun outlined several key achievements under his leadership, including the renovation of special schools and an increase in feeding allowances for pupils.
He also committed to providing transportation allowances for teachers, replacing the work-free days previously enjoyed by public school teachers.
In addition, the governor highlighted ongoing efforts to digitize education through initiatives like the Ogun Digitalized Multimedia Lesson Plan and the Central Education Management Information System (EMIS).
He stressed the importance of addressing abandoned school projects, explaining that the state is now working with UBEC to ensure that schools in the worst conditions are prioritized for renovation.
This initiative follows a comprehensive review to identify schools most in need of support, an effort led by the Head of Service.
The governor expressed his administration’s unwavering commitment to education as the foundation of socio-economic progress.
“We believe that education is key to development,” he said, acknowledging teachers’ pivotal role in shaping future generations despite the numerous challenges they face.
Education Commissioner Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu praised the government’s achievements in the sector and expressed appreciation for teachers’ dedication.
Union leaders also recognized the state government’s efforts to improve teachers’ welfare, including regular salary payments, promotions, and training programmes.
He concluded the event with the presentation of awards to outstanding teachers, schools, and administrators, further underscoring Ogun State’s ongoing investment in education.
