FG Offers Flexible Payment Plans for CNG Vehicle Conversion

By Jemimah Wellington, JKNewsMedia Reporter

THE FEDERAL Government has introduced a programme that enables Nigerians to convert their petrol-powered vehicles to compressed natural gas (CNG) with a “convert now, pay later” option.

This new initiative, announced by the National Orientation Agency (NOA) on its X social media platform, aims to provide an affordable and seamless transition from petrol to CNG.

The initiative is designed with flexible payment plans, allowing vehicle owners to pay for the conversion in monthly installments at competitive rates.

The NOA emphasized that this move will make it easier for users to make the switch, with a simple online application process and fast approval to facilitate conversions.

The website, gocng.ng, is now live for users to begin their application process.

The idea is also part of a broader effort by the federal government to reduce the country’s reliance on petrol and promote cleaner, more sustainable energy sources.

Benefits of using CNG include reduced fuel costs, a longer engine lifespan, and a lower environmental impact.

Additionally, the technology behind CNG has been proven to be safe and reliable.

Michael Oluwagbemi, Project Director and CEO of the Presidential CNG Initiative (P-CNGi), expressed that this project would improve the economic prospects of Nigerians by decreasing the nation’s dependency on petrol, offering a practical alternative that could lead to significant savings.

This announcement follows the launch of a similar portal on October 7, which allows youths to access CNG-powered tricycles, further expanding the government’s push towards cleaner energy alternatives.

  1. Thanks for sharing. It would have been easy if the conversion can be done at any filling station. The government approved locations may not be able to meet the demand very soon

    1. I really agree with you. But I think looking at the sizes of most of our filling stations, they may not have the capacity to cope with the demands. Plus, the problems of electricity outage may lead to having several vehicles on queue that will eventually lead to road blockages and terrible traffic logjam. I really wish they could have a system to make this work smoothly.
