GOVERNOR SIMINALAYI Fubara has urged the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) to adopt advanced and strategic methods to improve crime-fighting efforts in Rivers State.
At a recent meeting held at the Government House in Port Harcourt, the governor warmly welcomed the newly appointed Commissioner of Police, Mustapha Bala.
He also stressed the need for collaborative security efforts that prioritize the safety of Rivers State residents.
During the meeting, Fubara also emphasized that while his administration has maintained a supportive stance towards the NPF, he has been disturbed by reports of certain officers undermining effective governance through questionable actions.
He called on the Commissioner to encourage officers to refocus on genuine security goals, addressing crime in ways that strengthen community trust and unity.
“Crime often has roots within the communities, and we need an approach that allows us to identify these elements effectively,” said Fubara, highlighting the value of a crime-fighting model that engages local support to root out criminal activities.
In response, Commissioner Bala acknowledged the governor’s concerns, affirming his readiness to understand the unique security challenges of Rivers State and to enhance police formations with a dedicated focus on local issues.
He also called for collective support from the state government, ensuring that the police would act decisively to maintain peace and security.
Governor Fubara expressed optimism about the fresh approach under CP Bala’s leadership, pledging ongoing support to the security teams tasked with safeguarding Rivers communities.
